Myanmar is the largest country on the mainland of South- East Asia, with a land area of 67.6 million hectares (m ha). Agriculture remains the mainstay of the country's economy and, together with forestry, engages the majority of the workforce. Myanmar is rich with her natural resources, we can say that " you name it, we have it" Myanmar is the most forested country in the GMS; forests cover 51% of the total land area . Especially the country holds 70% of the world's remaining teak (Techtona grandis) resources.
As the commercial arm of the Ministry of Forestry, Myanma Timber Enterprise (MTE) is the income generating body in Forest Products Business. In the support of Myanma Timber Enterprise (MTE) and under the guidance of The Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI),Myanmar Forest Products and Timber Merchants Association(MFPTMA) is a solely non-governmental organization leading to the development of Forest Product based Industries in Myanmar.
Forest products based industry is an ideal option to efficiently utilize the valuable forest resources. Myanmar has managed to exploit with these resources and to promote trade sector with the major trading partners.
In this regard, the Myanmar Furniture Fair, 2008 (MFF'08) will be conducted in March, 2008 at Tatmadaw Hall, Yangon, in order to attract buying teams from companies of all size, who come from more than 30 countries to see the technology and design in wood & non-wood products and wood working machineries, supplies and services available to the market.
